The Waterville Beach Hotel (also known as the Rinn Rua Hotel, the Red Tip Hotel and the Reenroe Hotel) is located off of route R567 in Reenroe, Ballinskellings, County Kerry, Province of Munster, Ireland. ‎

In a spectacular location just on Reenroe Beach the Waterville Beach Hotel now stands derelict. It resides on a property of 136 acres. When it was opened and built is unclear but it was owned by Martin and Mary Huggard and was under management by their son, Billy Huggard. At some point in the early 1990’s the hotel closed down for business. On the land also lies a defunct and decaying old farm house that still poses a possibility for restoration, unlike the hotel.

In 2004, plans went underway to tear down and build a new hotel on the premises. Theses plans did not come to pass as an inhabitant with a vacation home in Reenroe, Eugene McMahon, lodged an appeal against the plans. It was to be a 106 bedroom hotel, conference center, with a spa and leisure options. Planning had been permitted but the decision to stop the proceedings were made the An Bord Pleanála. Eccleston International Limited continued to pursue the planning permission until 2007, in which it seems since then it has been impossible to get permission to build a hotel on the current site.

Currently the property is still for sale with the derelict hotel and the decaying farmhouse. Agricultural Land For Sale. It was listed for €150,000, but now says price upon request. It is used as grazing land for cows as of 2014.

The area is very beautiful and Mr. McMahon had every right to be against a blight to such a lovely and quiet area. Although it was also stated, that it would be able to offer over 200 new jobs which could a have served as something useful. Leave your opinions and comment below.

I worked here years ago when it was still open. In it’s hay day it really was a classy hotel, so sad to see it like this
